The Devon Renew Program

Like all instruments, Devon Bass guitars may start to show wear after having been enjoyed by their owners. While this is perfectly normal, the Devon Renew Program brings new life to your Devon Bass. This multi-step process helps refresh your instrument's original playability, tonal, and aesthetic qualities.

What's included with Devon Renew

  • electronics cavity

    Test, clean, and restore electronics

All the electronics in your Devon Bass are thoroughly cleaned and tested to ensure they work noise-free. Potentiometers and switches are sprayed with compressed air, while all the solder joints are inspected for integrity. Jacks and battery clips are tested to ensure the contacts work without static. And if your Devon Bass has a preamp, we'll check to make sure it works properly.

  • finish reconditioning materials

    Finish reconditioning

In addition to a thorough cleaning with AxeRagz cleaning products, the finish is also selectively buffed to remove most tiny scratches and scuffs. Minor dings and chips are filled and buffed, while any worn areas are sanded to restore their original wood color.

  • bass guitar with shiny hardware

    Hardware revitalization

All hardware is immersed in AxeRagz guitar cleaner and finely detailed to restore as much of its original beauty as possible. The bridge, tuners, control plates, knobs, and string ferrules are thoroughly scrubbed to remove debris and dirt.

  • bass with restored pickups and pickguard

    Restore pickup covers and pickguards

Over time, pickups and pickguards show wear from contact. Pickup covers are lightly sanded to remove dings, scratches and wear marks, and are polished to restore their original uniform finish. Pickguards are cleaned and buffed to remove and/or minimize the visible scuffs they've received.

  • close up of bass neck

    Level, crown and polish frets

Over time, frets become dull and worn down, which can often cause fret buzzing or rattling. To mitigate this, the frets are first leveled and re-crowned to ensure accurate intonation. Then the frets are finely polished to not only provide a pleasing aesthetic, but to ensure smooth and nearly-effortless playability. Fretless fingerboards are re-leveled and fine-sanded to restore their original lustre.

  • Luthier with detail work on frets

    Perform complete set-up

After all revitalization enhancements, your Devon Bass receives a complete set-up. This includes calibrating neck relief through truss rod adjustment, setting the saddle-height and intonation position, as well as refining the nut depth. Of course, we'll include a new set of strings and batteries.

Devon Renew Certificate and bass headstock back

Devon Renew Certificate of Authenticity

Each renewed instrument receives a dated and signed Devon Renew Certificate of Authenticity as well as the Devon Renew emblem on the back of the headstock as proof of having undergone the Devon Renew revitalization.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How much is Devon Renew?
There is a flat fee of $499 for the Devon Renew program. The price does not include shipping and Texas residents will be charged state sales tax.
How do I get my Devon Bass renewed?
Very easy! Just reach out to Devon Bass and you'll first work to ensure the bass is eligible for Devon Renew by sending some photos of your bass. Then you'll get a time-estimate and instruction for shipping your instrument.
Can I purchase a used Devon Bass with the Renew treatment?
Yes! Preowned Devon Bass guitars are available through the Devon Certified Preowned (CPO) Program.
How long does Devon Renew take?
The wait time for a Devon Renew may vary by how long the backlog is for the Devon Bass shop. You can typically expect 3 weeks for your bass to receive the Devon Renew revitalization and dropped off with the shipper. It's best to first contact Devon Bass to check on the wait time before you ship or drop it off.
Is the Devon Renew open to customers outside the US?
While Devon Bass is glad to accept customers from the US and Canada, we are not able to accept other international shipments just yet. But, stay tuned as that might change!
Can any bass brand receive the Devon Renew revitalization?
No, the Devon Renew program is only available for eligible Devon Bass instruments.
Are all Devon Bass guitars eligible to receive the Devon Renew Certificate?
Most Gen3 and newer Devon Bass and Aeon Bass models are available for the Devon Renew program. Older and/or modified instruments will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. As a general rule of thumb, basses that have had their wood drilled, routed, sanded or sawed in any way will likely not be eligible for the Devon Renew Certificate or Devon CPO program. Modifications to the instrument's electronics (pickups, preamp, pots, etc.) or hardware (bridge, tuners, etc.) may also make a bass ineligible for the program. Basses with structural issues, such as broken truss rods, warped necks, missing parts, or areas with heavy damage are also likely ineligible. We work closely with you to transparently discuss options and to clarify expectations.
What's "not" included with the Devon Renew program?
The Devon Renew program does not include replacement and installation of broken or damaged parts, hardware or electronics. Finish chips on tinted, translucent or solid-colored instruments that expose the wood underneath aren't covered. It also doesn't include basses with structural issues, such as broken truss rods, warped necks, missing parts, or areas with heavy damage. While many of these issues may be remediated, any work would be quoted and performed outside the scope of the Devon Renew program.
Will my older Devon Bass look brand new?
While Devon Bass doesn't promise to make your Devon Renewed bass "showroom new," the process certainly provides a very appreciable improvement in performance and aesthetic. This makes the instrument more appealing to you, and most likely enhances resale value.
Couldn't I just have my local guitar tech perform this same process?
You certainly can have the guitar tech you're familiar with perform this same process. However, please be aware if they perform restoration incorrectly, it may void your warranty. Additionally, only Devon Bass can award a Devon Renew Certificate of Authenticity, adding the credibility of having your instrument revitalized by the same Devon Bass team who originally crafted it.
